Coconino National Forest fire managers are monitoring two lightning caused fires burning near Sedona in the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness area. At last report the Platypus Fire was 8-acres and the Rhino Fire was under an acre in size. Both fires are visible in Sedona and the Verde Valley. The fires are burning in steep, remote terrain and are being monitored by air. There was also a lightning sparked fire on the edge of Oak Creek Canyon near Munds Park over the weekend. Crews quickly responded to douse that fire. Several other lightning caused fires are burning on the Coconino National Forest, but monsoon rains have slowed those fires progress considerably.
