Thursday afternoon, Cottonwood Fire responded to a commercial building on fire in the 200 block of Jennifer Drive. Chief Mike Kuykendall says upon arrival, firefighters found a two story, large commercial building with active fire coming from the roof of the structure. Firefighters assisted by Verde Valley, Jerome and Copper Canyon Fire worked for over 4 hours to control the blaze. He says the fire completely destroyed the second floor of the building and the first floor received massive water damage. Though the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Kuykendall says eye witness reports and initial investigative results suggest a lightning strike.
