Thursday afternoon, Chino Valley Police were contacted by YRMC to report they were treating a 4 month old baby boy who had symptoms of extreme abuse. Lt. Vince Schaan says while the mother is working, she entrusted the care of the baby to her brother, the baby’s uncle, identified as 26-year old Taylor Marrs of Chino Valley. He says Thursday, Taylor brought the child to the mothers work after the child was experiencing some medical issues. The mother rushed the baby to Central Arizona Fire and Medical, where crews began the lifesaving care before transferring the baby to YRMC. Schaan says results of scans of the baby’s brain showed multiple brain bleeds both old and new denoting not just a single but multiple incidents of injury. Schaan says Marrs initially denied causing any harm to the baby, but eventually admitted to causing injury to the baby on multiple occasions, including striking the baby, shoving bottles into his mouth causing bruising, choking, smothering and even shaking the baby. Thursday’s assault of the 4 month old on resulted in the baby losing consciousness and stopping breathing. Schaan says the baby’s condition is currently listed as stable. Taylor Marrs was booked into YCSO Jail on 1 count of Child Abuse, 6 counts of Aggravated Assault. The case is still under investigation.
