DPS is remembering a fallen Trooper today. Trooper Ed Rebel was shot to death while attempting to arrest a suspect driving a stolen car near Marana on I-10. The shooting occurred on this day in 1988. Despite his mortal wound, the 50-year old was able to fire a volley of shots, killing the assailant, 23-year old Bruce Beaty of Houston. Beaty was believed to be part of a stolen car ring.
