Quick action by a citizen stops the advance of a potentially disastrous fire in Uptown Sedona Monday afternoon

Monday afternoon, Sedona Fire responded to a potentially disastrous brush fire. Assistant Chief Jayson Coil says a passerby called 911 after smelling smoke in an uptown Sedona neighborhood. He says the man then discovered a small fire burning in grasses at a residence that was beginning to creep under the wood deck. Coil says the man grabbed a garden hose and kept the fire from spreading further until crews arrived and put it out. Coil says this fire, though small, had significant potential for disaster due to the close proximity to structures and the occupants of the home having mobility challenges. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
