Thursday evening, Highlands Fire responded to a fully involved vehicle fire on Highway 89A just south of the Fort Tuthill Roundabout. Captain Brian Katrales says they dispatched two engines and a water tender. As crews came within 2-miles they could see a heavy black column of smoke coming up from the location. Katrales says crews got a quick knockdown on the fire preventing it from spreading to the forest. He says the exact cause of the fire is unknown. Katrales says the owner of the vehicle stated he had just come up through Oak Creek Canyon when he saw flames shooting out the side of his car. No injuries were reported. Highway 89A was closed in both directions for a brief time.
