DPS charged the driver of an SUV that caused a crash near Kachina Village with DUI Sunday night. Officials say just before 9-pm 41-year old Karis Begaye of Saint Michaels was headed northbound when he collided with a semi. The crash closed one northbound lane. Officials say Begaye suffered minor injuries and his vehicle was disabled; the driver of the semi was unhurt and was able to drive the big-rig after the crash. The investigation determined Begaye was driving under the influence of alcohol. Begaye was arrested and charged with extreme DUI, endangerment and criminal damage.
