Prescott Valley Police seeking donations of cell phones for victims of domestic violence

Prescott Valley Police Department is seeking donations of inexpensive, rechargeable wireless cell phones and airtime cards to assist victims of domestic violence. Spokesman Jerry Ferguson says victims need these phones in order to get updates on their cases, contact victim services, find safe places for relocation, or to contact family or friends to assist with safety planning after a domestic violence incident. Ferguson says victims of domestic violence are often isolated by their abusers; and that one method used to further isolate and control victims is to prevent access to a phone through either taking or damaging the phone. He says the provision of these phones has been shown to be an invaluable tool in assisting victims who may be at an increased risk of being re-assaulted or victimized. To make a donation bring new inexpensive, rechargeable, wireless cell phones and airtime cards to the Prescott Valley Police Department and turn them in at the Lobby window. For further information, please call the PVPD Family Violence Unit at 928-772-5625.
