Monday afternoon, Prescott Fire responded to a wildland fire in the area of Side Road. Division Chief Don Devendorf says the caller reported that the fire was burning quickly and was within 20-feet of a structure. Crews arrived to find a quarter acre grass fire which was trying to be doused by the men that caused the fire. Devendorf says the welders, who had been working on a fence, were using shovels and fire extinguishers in an attempt to stop the fire. A neighbor was also on scene using water from a water truck to douse the flames. He says the public is reminded that this is shaping up to be a dangerous wildland fire season with all the dry vegetation. He says the welders stated that they thought they had the fire out, but the winds picked up and the fire took off. Devendorf says it’s possible the area may go into fire restrictions early this year.
