Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Vice-Chairman Brooks Compton met with Arizona Public Service (APS) representatives James Bloom and Karrin Taylor Robson of AZ Strategies, Arizona’s Premier Land Use Strategy Team, on Thursday, February 13, to discuss efforts to improve the reliability of electrical service in rural areas, including Wilhoit, Congress, and Yarnell, and future educational opportunities for all Yavapai County residents. They also discussed the APS Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) plans for this summer.
Supervisor Compton said, “It is great to have partners like Robson and Bloom working with us on Yavapai County-specific issues. We know how critical it is to have power in our homes, and APS has proven to be a reliable partner. We are also working tirelessly with several broadband internet providers to ensure everyone has the access they need to succeed.”
APS introduced the PSPS plan last year, which would impact only customers in targeted, high-fire-risk communities, to keep Arizonans safe. In specific conditions, APS may temporarily shut off power to certain areas to prevent the electric system from starting or contributing to a wildfire through a downed wire or inadvertent spark. For more information go to Public Safety Power Shutoff.
Vice-Chairman Compton’s conversation with Mrs. Robson included several Yavapai County-specific economic development issues, including the need for a nursing school to help staff local hospitals and the future growth of local educational institutions. Vice-Chairman Compton said he is looking forward to working with Mrs. Robson in the future in whatever capacity that may be.
