9/3 Grand Canyon officials gave an update Wednesday on their efforts to locate a missing person and damages caused by last weekend’s Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch flood event. Officials say the search continues for 53-year-old Timothy Smith of Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming. He and two of his friends were washed away during the event. Smith’s friends, 46-year-old John Giusti and 42-year-old Brent Rosenkranz, both of Granbury, Texas, were both found deceased. Search efforts for Smith continue downstream of Phantom Ranch. APS is working on restoring power in the area and water utility specialists are assessing the Roaring Springs pumphouse and distribution system. 40% of the Transcanyon Waterline was destroyed in the flood, forcing Stage-4 water restrictions across the park.
