The Prescott Valley Police Department is investigating a trespassing incident that occurred at the Town’s Summit 1 Water Tank on Glassford Hill in the early morning hours of February 13.
At approximately 3:15am, security cameras captured two individuals behaving suspiciously inside the fence at the water tank. The activity triggered an alarm, alerting Town staff who immediately notified the Police Department. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the individuals had trespassed onto the fenced site, ignoring posted warning signs and a locked gate.
Although it appears nothing was disturbed, the water tank was immediately isolated from the rest of the system. Due to the potential for water contamination, the entire tank of 1 million gallons must now be drained. The tank will be disinfected and inspected again before being brought back into service. All other Town water tanks and well sites were also inspected and no evidence of any tampering or activity has occurred at any other site. This appears to be an isolated incident.
The Town of Prescott Valley and the Prescott Valley Police Department take the security of its water system infrastructure seriously. Unlawful entry onto water facilities is a Federal crime, and Homeland Security is involved in safeguarding these critical assets.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Prescott Valley Police Department is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
