12/11 DPS remembers Trooper, 33-year-old Noah Merrill, who was killed on this date in 1978. Merrill was struck and killed by a passing tractor-trailer during a traffic stop on I-10 near Benson. The driver of the semi claimed he was trying to “blow the hat off” Trooper Merrill, and inadvertently hit him with the truck. DPS is conducting a Line of Duty Death Detail today in Merrill’s honor and to bring awareness to Arizona’s “Move Over Law”.
