Chinle Man and Woman Connected to 2024 Murder Sentenced to Time Served

8/25 Two people linked to a murder in Chinle were sentenced to time served for their role in covering up the homicide. Navajo Police say 45-year-old Marlin Nez and 36-year-old Megan Yarber, both of Chinle, were present when Wendel Draper shot and killed the victim in Nez’s home, in July of 2024. Nez and Yarber were jailed for 16-months before pleading guilty to knowingly covering up a federal crime. They were also ordered to pay restitution to the family. Nez and Yarber helped Draper bury the victim in a shallow grave and then set the victim’s vehicle on fire at a separate location. The victim’s body was recovered. Draper was shot and killed by law enforcement when he allegedly pointed a gun at them while they were trying to arrest him for the homicide.
