9/4 AAA Arizona says travelers, this holiday weekend, are paying the highest gas prices ever for this time of year. Arizonans are paying an average of $4.52 per gallon, down 2-cents from last week, but $1.06 higher than this time last year. The national average is $4.14, up 4-cents from last week. Turmoil in the Strait of Hormuz continues to be the reason for the higher prices. Officials say after a record-setting August, this Labor Day weekend is on track to also set a record at the pump. The current Labor Day record was set in 2012 when gas was $3.82 per gallon. The national average has never been above $4-per gallon on Labor Day. Scottsdale has the highest price in the state at $4.72 while Tucson has the lowest price at $4.31. EV charging remained the same at 42-cents nationally and 44-cents in Arizona.
