8/26 Navajo Police responded to a bear attack call along the Arizona/New Mexico Border, near Crystal, last Thursday. The 911 caller reported an adult male had been attacked and mauled by a black bear. Arriving officers shot the bear, but it ran into the forest. It was later located and neutralized. The victim died as a result of the attack. Officials say food and drought are the causes of most human-bear conflicts. Bears begin to wander into public areas looking for food and water.
