7/31 The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office continues to receive reports from people who have been scammed out of large sums of money, by someone claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office. In many of the cases the suspect has posed as a current or retired Sheriff’s Office employee and has told the victim they have an outstanding warrant for their arrest and if they don’t pay it, they’ll be taken into custody. Several victims paid large sums of money. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office will never instruct you to pay fines, warrants, or court fees using kiosks, gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfers. Employees will not call, text, or email demanding immediate payment or threatening arrest if payment is not made. If you receive a call like this, hang up.
