4/16 Prescott National Forest will begin the cleanup of the abandoned Gold Bullion Mine near Cherry, the week of April 27-th. The mine produced gold, but operations ceased before the 1940’s. Since then, mine waste has leaked into the surrounding environment, causing poor watershed quality. The forest service will consolidate mine waste and place erosion control measures and seeding to ensure long-term stability after the cleanup is finished. The public will see heavy equipment working in the area of Federal Mine Road and Forest Road-132 in Cherry. The work should be finished by June.
