Fugitive arrested in Prescott Valley after 37 years on the lam

Tuesday, Prescott Valley Police Department Detectives received notification from the FBI that an escaped fugitive from the Iowa Department of Corrections, Charles Leroy Cagley was living in the 4600 block of Carla Vista Drive in Prescott Valley. Spokesperson Jerry Ferguson says Detectives went to the residence and positively identified Cagley and confirmed that an active felony extraditable warrant for him was indeed current. He says Cagley was serving 2.5 years for 2nd Degree Robbery when he escaped while on work detail at the Newton Correctional Facility in Iowa and that Cagley stated he’s “been on the lam ever since.” Ferguson says it appears he has lived in Prescott Valley since approximately 2008 and in Yavapai County since approximately 2004. Ferguson says Cagley was arrested without incident and transported to the Prescott Jail where he awaits extradition back to Iowa.
