31 Large Fires Burning Across the U.S.

6/22 The National Interagency Fire Center says as of Monday firefighters across the nation are working to stop 31 large fires across 8-different geographic regions. The National Preparedness Level increased to 3 late last week as wildland fire activity increased. Officials say the Great Basin has the largest number of large fires, with 11. The largest fire in the country at the moment is the South Fork Fire in Nebraska, which has charred nearly 40,000-acres. More than 5,000 personnel are assigned to incidents nationwide. So far this year, 34,038-fires have burned more than 2.7-million acres.
