3/24 The Gila County Sheriff’s Office released a few more details into a drowning that occurred at the Fossil Creek Lower Waterfalls Sunday morning. The Sheriff’s Office and Tonto Rim Search and Rescue responded to the area. Witnesses reported a 25-year-old male jumped from the falls into the river and resurfaced, giving a “thumbs up”. The person continued to swim, but as they swam under the falls again, they disappeared under the water for more than 10-minutes. Bystanders pulled him from the water, but were unable to revive him. The person’s name has not yet been released.
