Farmer’s and vendors are gearing up to kick off the 2018 season’s Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 19. Hours will be 8am to Noon at the Ramada by Fort Verde on Holloman Street, every Saturday morning through October 6.
In addition to providing some of the freshest produce available and locally made natural products, the market is also committed to creating a healthier planet earth. Did you know every year 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide? And that 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our ocean every year? Or that it takes 300 years for a bag to photodegrade? One of the Verde Valley Farmer’s Market missions is to make a local difference, set a “green” example and work towards going plastic bag free.
How can you help? If you have reusable grocery totes, bring them with you! If you have extra totes you no longer need, the market is also creating a “lend a tote” station where shoppers may borrow a tote that they can return on a future visit. Our goal is to become the first “plastic free” Farmer’s Market in the State!
