The Salvation Army Flagstaff Corps Community Center is gearing up for another jam-packed holiday season and is asking the local community to join in the “Fight for Good.”
“It’s a fight to help our local neighbors most in need, who struggle to put food on the table, make rent and keep the electricity on – every single day,” said Flagstaff Corps Officer Captain Brittany Baker.
“It’s fighting to provide more opportunities for our youth. It’s a fight to bring Christmas to families that might not otherwise have one. But most of all, The Salvation Army is a sign of hope and a constant presence. The Salvation Army is generosity put into action,” Baker added.
The Salvation Army has served the Flagstaff community for more than half a century and has been able to do so through the support of generous donors, volunteers and caring local businesses and organizations.
The Salvation Army is looking for energetic, giving, caring volunteers this holiday season to be bell ringers at the Army’s famous Red Kettles, with a goal of exceeding $50,000 in Red Kettle donations. More volunteers than ever are needed at Red Kettles in order to stretch donations as far as possible to help those in need.
“Bell ringing is fun, easy and an excellent way to give back to the community,” said Baker. “For groups, organizations and companies, it is great for team building and a fantastic way to embrace the spirit of the season.”
Donations to the Red Kettles comprise 20 percent of donations to The Salvation Army in Arizona for the entire year.
Volunteers are needed to staff Christmas Angel Trees throughout Flagstaff as well. Volunteers will help shoppers chose Christmas Angel tags of children in need and help process the gifts when they are returned to the trees.
To help in the Christmas Angel effort, people are also encouraged to organize a new toy drive at their school, church, business or in their neighborhood.
Additionally, The Salvation Army is in need of non-perishable food items from individuals or donation drives, food which can be donated to the Flagstaff Corps, located at 507 N. Humphreys St.
“Our passion is people, and our mission is life transformation. You can always count on The Salvation Army to be here, serving the Flagstaff community,” said Baker.
