Corn Fest this Saturday!
Corn Fest is this Saturday July 17 in Downtown Camp Verde for its 27th year! This annual one-day event features fresh roasted Hauser & Hauser corn in a Street Fair type setting with food trucks and live musical entertainment plus vendors of all types. Hollamon Street is closed down, the Community Center Gym is open and the shaded Town campus is there to enjoy. Gates open at 11 am with free admission and the fun continues until 8 pm. Celebrating Camp Verde agriculture and hometown fun with fresh local corn to take home to benefit the Kiwanis Club of Camp Verde. A corn hole competition will be held with registration through KBCornhole.com. Make a throw at the dunk tank to benefit Trail Life youth group.
According to Michael Marshall, Parks & Recreation Manager, “Shifting the event to a Street fair style was a huge success in 2019 and means we can beat the heat inside the Gym, shade trees outside and improve the resistance to afternoon monsoons” says Marshall. “This year we will be expanding to include the shaded Town grounds around the building” he added. “Also new this year will be a large pavilion shade tent with tables and chairs to enjoy a break while listening to live music” said Shawna Figy, Recreation Supervisor. “Bands on tap include Aaron McCall Band and Peaceful Outlaws” said Figy.
This event will include the Verde Valley Ranger’s beer garden and a co-located 2nd Annual Sweet Corn IKF Kickboxing Championship. The kick boxing event will have an admission charge and returns after a successful premier in 2019. The Kiwanis of Camp Verde will be selling corn by the dozen from Hauser &Hauser Farms to take home and the Trail Life youth group will be operating a dunk tank for us, also as a fundraiser. P&R is operating a Kid’s Activity Garden as a place for kids to come play some games and enjoy the event. Sheri Hauser of Glorybound Publishing will be hosting “Corn Fest Kids” an interactive children’s theater in the Veteran’s Memorial Gazebo. Community fundraising and grass roots involvement are what make these events true community events. The Camp Verde Arena Association has two days of flat track racing scheduled at the new Camp Verde Equestrian Arena also.
