Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Krysta Pelletier was nominated and awarded the
Above and Beyond Award on Tuesday October 24th at the 2023 Annual Celebrating Women in Yavapai County Law Enforcement Recognition Luncheon. The criterion for the award required that the recipient display an unusual degree of knowledge, expertise, positive attitude, actions, and professionalism that goes above and beyond the call of duty resulting in exceptional dedication to the Law Enforcement Profession”.
Deputy Pelletier was nominated by the YCSO Communication Supervisor. Within the nomination she wrote:
“In June of 2023, Deputy Pelletier responded to an ATV rollover [accident] in a remote area outside Black Canyon City. While en route, Deputy Pelletier received updates that the victim was going in and out of consciousness and that the area the victim was in was extremely remote. Due to the remote location, DPS Ranger was launched out of Phoenix, however, they had an extended flight time. The victim’s condition was continuing to deteriorate, and there was no fire or medical service that was able to respond. Deputy Pelletier was able to plot the coordinates and located a potential route to the patient through a dry wash. Deputy Pelletier was able to make it within a quarter of a mile from the patient and then successfully locate and secure a safe landing zone for Ranger. While Ranger was still en route, Deputy Pelletier could clear a large group of ATVs blocking the landing zone and securing the area for Ranger. While Ranger was still en route, a bystander had loaded the victim in another ATV and brought the patient to the Landing Zone. Deputy Pelletier assisted with providing life-saving treatment to the patient before Ranger arrived and helped keep the victim stable. Once Ranger arrived, Deputy Pelletier continued to assist DPS with the initial lifesaving care and treatment of the patient. Ranger then transported the victim to a nearby trauma center, where the patient was then able to receive lifesaving care and in turn, made a full recovery. Deputy Pelletier’s knowledge of the area, ability to select an appropriate landing zone, and ability to take control of a chaotic scene allowed the victim to get life-saving care. Without Deputy Pelletier’s response, it would not have been possible.”
YCSO Sheriff David Rhodes agreed. “I want to thank Deputy Pelletier for her professionalism and dedication to this agency and to our community. She embodies the best of law enforcement, and this award is more than well deserved.
