National Preparedness Increases to 5 due to Wildfires/Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton

10/08 The National Preparedness Level was increased from 4-to-5 this morning, the highest it goes. The National Interagency Fire Center says this is the latest we’ve been in Level-5; the previous record was set on October 1-st, 2020. Emergency resources are stretched thin across the country as significant wildland fire activity remains in multiple geographic areas as well as the response to Hurricane Helene. In addition, officials are gearing up for Hurricane Milton, which is scheduled to make landfall this week.
