YCSO Memorial Day Weekend Roundup

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) Deputies had their fair share of DUI related calls and incidents over the holiday weekend. Deputies responded to calls about a tow truck driver who was impaired and drove into a ditch, a driver who fell out of a moving vehicle, and the discovery of a deceased male in his Coyote Springs home.

Just before 3am on Monday, YCSO Deputies were dispatched to the report of a Tow Truck in a ditch on Dragon Ln in Prescott Valley. When Deputies arrived at the scene, there were multiple witnesses who stated they saw the driver Christian Smith (29) of Rimrock driving the truck intoxicated. Deputies located the tow truck in the ditch and noted the property damage caused by it. Smith showed signs of impairment and a field sobriety test was conducted to which he failed. He was arrested for DUI slightest, and the tow truck has been removed from the area.

On Monday afternoon, YCSO responded to the call that a driver, Crystal Chadwell (49) of unknown, fell out of her moving vehicle on Thumb Butte Rd. Upon interviewing Chadwell, she said she was driving the vehicle when it suffered a mechanical failure of the brakes causing her to swerve to slow down. In doing so, the door opened, and she fell out and was struck by the back tire. She suffered a broken arm and some cuts and scrapes. Signs of drug use were exhibited; results of a DUI investigation showed a positive result for methamphetamine. Chadwell was cited for DUI and other traffic offenses.

The morning of May 29 YCSO Detectives were dispatched to the report that the body of deceased male was found in his Coyote Springs home. YCSO Detectives are investigating the circumstances of this death. We currently have no further information to release to the public.
