Mingus Union Track and Field on Probation

A special board meeting was held yesterday by the Mingus High school governing board. The Mingus Union High School girls’ track & field and cross country teams have been put on probation for one year, and an appeal of the probation was discussed according to Superintendent Mike Westcott. A father of an ineligible Mingus runner, “acting independently from Mingus Union High School, knowingly allowed a student to run in the State Girls’ Cross Country Championships, while wearing a Mingus jersey. The student was on the Mingus cross country team that qualified for the state, but was not declared by the coaches. “The parents took it upon themselves to have her run without the Athletic Director and head coach’s knowledge. In speaking with the father he understood what he did put the school in jeopardy but was not his intention. He is willing to take responsibility for his actions and speak on behalf of the school if necessary.”
