Beavers Causing Trouble at Dead Horse Ranch State Park

Vandals have been busy as a beaver at Dead Horse State Park, and officials are getting concerned. Beavers are chomping into a Cottonwood tree at the Tavasci Marsh in Clarkdale. As the beaver population around the Verde River grows, they are destroying more trees, and park officials are getting concerned. Officials said it is difficult to know if it would be considered beaver overpopulation at this time without studies. Tom Bagley, wildlife manager at Arizona Game and Fish Department, said he was aware of beavers living in the lagoons as well as in the Verde River around Dead Horse. He didn’t know there was a “heightened concern over the beavers right now.” There’s always been beavers at Dead Horse around the Cottonwood trees, and they installed wire mesh fencing around them to protect them from the beavers.
