The Verde Valley Archaeology Center began when six members watched 1,400 artifacts from a Cottonwood home development go to a repository/museum in Prescott because there was no place to store them in the Verde Valley. So they created an all-new, nonprofit Verde Valley Archeology Center in September of 2010. And started the process of becoming a certified repository for Native American artifacts.
Originally, the members were part of the Verde Valley Society Chapter in Sedona, which was formed in 1975. Now the long-time executive director is retiring and handing the reins to the Deputy Director Monica Buckle, who is part Cherokee. The board still has to select her, “which is highly likely.
