The Prescott City Council took a step forward in a multi-agency effort to preserve
about 3,300 acres of open space on Glassford Hill. On Tuesday, the City Council
voted 7-0 to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Yavapai County and
Prescott Valley to work together to buy and preserve Arizona State Trust land on
or near Glassford Hill the large promontory between Prescott and Prescott Valley.
The agreement will run for 10 years, and will have a goal of acquiring as much of
the 3,300-acre area as possible during that time. Depending on the amount of
grant funding that becomes available to Prescott over the next decade, the city’s
responsibility could be between about $6 million and $20.4 million. Under the
agreement, Prescott would have a responsibility to acquire about 1,700 acres,
and Prescott Valley would acquire about 1,600 acres.
