Sedona armed robbery suspect killed in shootout with Oklahoma Highway Patrol

Friday afternoon, Sedona Police responded to Whole Foods regarding an armed robbery. Officials say the armed suspect verbally threatened an employee when he was confronted. The suspect, Charles Carswell of Ohio, was identified and his vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a felony vehicle with an armed occupant. Saturday, Oklahoma Highway Patrol located Carswell’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but he fled. Carswell began shooting at troopers while actively fleeing the pursuit. Once stopped, Carswell exited his car armed with a long rifle, barricaded himself behind the car and began firing additional rounds. During the shootout, he was struck and killed by one of the rounds. The investigation is on-going.
