Attorney General reaches settlement with student loan company

Attorney General Mark Brnovich says Navient, known as one of the nation’s largest student loan services, will provide relief totaling $1.85-billion to resolve allegations of widespread unfair and deceptive practices and abuses in originating predatory student loans. As part of the settlement, Arizona consumers will receive over $54-million in debt relief and over $3.3-million in restitution. The settlement resolves claims that since 2009, Navient steered struggling student loan borrowers into costly long-term forbearance’s instead of counseling them about the benefits of more affordable income-driven repayment plans.
