Coconino County Detention Facility faces COVID-19 virus outbreak

The Coconino County Detention Facility Medical Department is conducting a mass COVID-19 testing of all inmates and Detention staff. Officials say they’re currently experiencing their first COVID-19 outbreak since health protocols were put in place in March 2020. As of Thursday morning, 44-inmates and 11-Detention Staff were currently COVID-19 positive. Since March 2020, the facility has had 308-inmates and 103-Detention Staff test positive for the virus. To create the space needed to slow down the outbreak, staff will temporarily not accept non-violent misdemeanor arrests along with self-surrender court commits. This will also allow the facility to continue to quarantine new inmates for 10-days, as recommended by the CDC.
