Cottonwood Fire responds to house fire this week

Cottonwood Fire responded to a house fire in the 1,000-block of South Fourth Street earlier this week. Fire Marshal Rick Contreras says crews arrived and found heavy smoke and large flames coming from the rear and interior. He says crews made an exterior and interior attack at the same time to knock out the flames. Two occupants and two dogs made it out of the structure. Both occupants were transported to VVMC for further assessment. Contreras says the fire started near the woodstove and combustible materials nearby helped stoke the flames. Everyone is reminded to have their heating units properly cleaned and maintained as we enter the winter fire season.
