Saturday morning, Verde Valley Fire crews responded to a fatal house fire on South Kadamoto Drive in Cornville. Fire Chief Danny Johnson says upon arrival, crews had heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure. Crews were unable to clear the structure due to the conditions and withdrew to a defensive position to protect surrounding structures. Once the fire was under control crews were able to begin clearing the structure at which time they found a deceased person. The Verde Valley Fire Investigations Task Force and YCSO responded and began an investigation. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
