Tussock Fire update

Evacuations were needed Sunday due to the Tussock Fire southwest of Crown King. YCSO evacuated residents in Horse Thief Basin, Minihaha and Fort Misery and placed Crown King on “SET” status. BLM officials say the Tussock Fire started Saturday afternoon about 8-miles southwest of Crown King. The fire is currently about 3,500-acres in size with 0% containment. The Red Cross has since closed a shelter in Mayer at Mayer High School. Some forest roads in the area have been closed to the public, including Forest Road 711, which runs to Lake Pleasant. A Type-2 team is in command of the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
