Off-duty Jerome police officers save life at a local gym

Cottonwood Fire responded to Planet Fitness on Tuesday regarding an elderly man in cardiac arrest. Once on scene, crews found two off-duty Jerome police officers tending to the man. The officers were working out when the victim collapsed. The officers performed CPR and used the Automated External Defibrillator or AED provided by the facility, to deliver an electrical shock that restored the man’s heart beat to a normal, life sustaining rhythm. Shortly after, he began breathing again on his own and regained consciousness. The patient was transported to VVMC for further evaluation and treatment.
