Chino Valley Police warn public of scam calls from local numbers

Chino Valley Police Lt. Randy Chapman says members of the community have informed the department they are receiving phone calls from local numbers that show up as Chino Valley on caller ID. Chapman says when the phone is answered the person calling informs the victim they are a police officer with the department. The caller then says the victim has had their social security number used and they need to verify the details with the officer. He says officers will never ask for your social security number over the phone, inform you that there is a warrant for your arrest, and tell you need to pay a fine to avoid jail, or ask for donations. Never give your personal information over the phone.
