Verde Valley Fire responded to a brush fire in the 900-block of Page Springs Road in Cornville, Sunday afternoon. Battalion Chief Shaun McCallum says the fire started next to several homes with heavy black smoke visible from around the valley. Crews found 2-out buildings, grass and various types of brush on fire threatening multiple structures. He says limited access, winds, and heavy fuel loads made suppression difficult. It took crews under 3-hours to contain and extinguish the fire. McCallum says the fire destroyed 2-out buildings, a travel trailer, and a car. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
