Cottonwood Fire responds to 3 fires on Sunday

Cottonwood Fire responded to a series of 3-brush fires within a 30-minute time period on Sunday night. Chief Mike Kuykendall says the first fire was contained to less than an acre in a field off the roadway in the 200-block of East Mingus Avenue. He says a second fire in 700 block of North Verde Heights Drive was spotted by an off-duty firefighter who was responding to the first fire. The firefighter stopped his vehicle and extinguished the fire containing it to only 200-square feet. The third fire was contained to less than 2-acres on a hill behind Rio Verde RV Park in the 3400-block of East Highway-89A. Residents are encouraged to create defensible space around their home. All fires are under investigation but are suspected to have been human caused.
