COVID-19 scams turning up

Prescott Valley Police have received an increase in reports of suspects calling citizens and posing as agents of various government agencies and offering services for COVID-19 relief. Spokesperson Jodi Mullens says scammers are taking this opportunity to capitalize on the desperate situations citizens may be facing during this pandemic. She says it’s important to remember the following to avoid becoming a victim; look up the phone number for the individual or agency on their website. Do not click on any links or attachments as they could contain a virus that will infect your computer and remember no reputable business will want to be paid with gift cards. If you are questioning the legitimacy of the person, hang up, and contact your local police department.
