Whiskey Fire update

Coconino National Forest officials have begun managing the Whiskey Fire. The lightning caused fire was discovered on September 2-nd and is currently 105 acres and located 15 miles southwest of Flagstaff near the 2014 Slide Fire. Fire managers are continuing to assess the fire to determine the best course of action but will continue to reinforce containment lines. Recent rains have helped aid fire personnel by creating excellent conditions for the fire to burn slowly and consume the forest debris at low intensities. Smoke will impact communities such as Village of Oak Creek, Sedona and surrounding areas as temperatures drop in the evening. Forest users are advised to use caution when entering the proposed fire area. Parts of Forest Road 231 will be closed periodically.
