Management Fires on the Prescott, Kaibab and Coconino National Forests

The Prescott National Forest is planning to use the lightning caused Cellar Fire for management purposes. The fire is burning 19-miles south of Prescott and at last report had burned 36-acres. The lightning caused Castle Creek Fire, 6-miles east of Crown King, received additional rain Sunday, which slowed its growth. It’s charred a little more than 100-acres and is also being used for management purposes. Kaibab National Forest officials say they’re using a lightning caused fire for management purposes as well. The Castle Fire was ignited Friday and is burning 11-miles south of Jacob Lake. The fire has only burned about an acre with 12,000 acres in the planning area. Coconino National Forest officials are also monitoring a fire. Crews are conducting burnout operations around the Newman Fire south of Upper Lake Mary. Officials hope the fire will treat up to 22,000 acres.
