Prescribed burn near Williams resumes today

Kaibab National Forest Fire managers are burning about 8-miles southeast of Williams over the next several days. Crews have been working on the Sunflower Prescribed burn. The project is located between County Road 73 and Whitehorse Lake. A helicopter will be used for aerial ignitions in combination with ground ignitions on the 2,800-acre unit. A large column of smoke will be visible from Williams, Parks, Sherwood Forest, Garland Prairie, Whitehorse Lake and the I-40 corridor. The Russell Prescribed Fireproject, about 13-miles southeast of Tusayan will also be considered for treatments with possible implementation beginning on Thursday. A total of 2,100-acres are scheduled to be treated with fire with the burn lasting 10-to-12-days.
