Freidlein Prairie Road on the Coconino National Forest is closed to vehicles for thinning operations

Freidlein Prairie Road on the south side of the San Francisco Peaks is closed to vehicular traffic only for 45-days due to forest thinning operations and commercial hauling traffic. Coconino National Forest officials say the road remains open to bicycles, hikers and equestrians. Officials ask the public to not park in front of the locked gate, as logging vehicles will need to obtain continual access. Forest thinning will continue all summer long throughout the forest at different locations which may require other temporary closures.
