Another wild horse found dead in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Law Enforcement investigators say another wild horse was found deceased recently. Officials say a necropsy expert was called to the scene to conduct an investigation and three shell casings were recovered nearby. Since October of 2018, officials say there have been 19 cases of deceased horses. Of the deceased horses, 11 have evidence of gunshot wounds, 6 whose cause of death remained undetermined, 1 died after getting stuck in a cattle-guard, and 1 died in a motor vehicle collision. The series of horse deaths is an issue officials are taking seriously and diligently investigating. Anyone who encounters an injured or deceased horse is urged to contact the Black Mesa Ranger District. The public is asked to pass along all tips to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 1-800-78CRIME.
