The Governor declared this week as Work Zone Awareness Week. ADOT says although work zones are well marked, crashes still occur. In 2017 in Arizona, nearly 1,000 collisions happened in work zones that resulted in fatalities. Drivers should pay heed because, according to national statistics, vehicle occupants account for more than 80% of traffic fatalities that occur in work zones. ADOT asks motorists to expect the unexpected, slow down, be careful merging, don’t tailgate and above all pay attention.
