Dog locked in car results in a call for Jerome Fire.

Over the weekend, Jerome Fire responded to a call for a dog locked inside a vehicle. Officials say the weather is getting warmer, and keeping pets in cars can cause organ damage and even death. Pet owners should remember when it’s 72 outside, the temperature inside a car can heat up to 116 within an hour. When it’s 80, the temperature can rise to 99 within 10 minutes. Officials say rolling down the windows has been shown to have little effect on the temperature inside a car. They say if you see an animal inside of a locked car and the owner can’t be found, call the non-emergency number of the local police or animal control and wait by the car for them to arrive. The 2017 Good Samaritan law says people can legally remove animals from locked cars if the animal is in eminent danger, no more force is used than necessary and they have notified a police beforehand.
