Two arrested in attempted ATM burglary in Black Canyon City.

YCSO has arrested two men in connection with an attempted ATM burglary that occurred in Black Canyon City on November 21-st. The suspects used a liquid to cover the camera on the ATM an then tried to use a torch to cut into it. Images of the suspects were caught on the ATM camera. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says detectives discovered a 911 call from the same morning in which a lone male was reported walking south along I-17 near Black Canyon City and a deputy had made contact with him. Detectives reviewed body camera footage from the deputy and determined the male contacted on I17 was in fact, based on a clothing match, the suspect seen in the ATM security video. It was also noted the man’s t-shirt was torn in the back which he explained had occurred crossing through brush in the area.  The investigation led detectives to an address in Phoenix where 22-year old Charles Barnes was taken into custody. The second suspect, 53-year old Brian Carson, was found in the Maricopa County Jail where he was being held on charges relating to two ATM burglaries in the Phoenix area. D’Evelyn says Carson is the father of Barnes’ girlfriend. He says Carson has an extensive criminal history, including prior ATM burglary cases and is on active probation.
